Placencia Coastline

The Placencia Peninsula runs 16 miles from the village tip to Seine Bight and Hopkins to the north. The eastern side faces the Caribbean and holds the broadest stretch of sandy beach on the Belizean mainland, a rarity in a country where most coastal land is mangrove or cayes. The village Sidewalk, a narrow concrete path running the length of the waterfront, is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the narrowest main street in the world.

Beach quality along the peninsula varies by section: the village tip has the highest concentration of dining and watersports but also the most foot traffic. North of the village the beach widens in alternating sections, with a quieter stretch accessible from mid-range hotels between Placencia and Seine Bight. Hopkins, further north along the same coastline, is Garifuna-centered with a longer beach and lower commercial density.

Offshore from Placencia, the Belize Barrier Reef is close enough for boat day trips, roughly 25 minutes to the nearest reef sections, while the inland lagoon on the western side of the peninsula supports kayaking and manatee watching without open-water exposure of reef-side activities.
