On paved highways (Northern, Western, Southern) regular cars work fine. 4WD is strongly recommended for interior roads, especially Caracol Access Road, and essential during rainy season (May-Sept) when roads flood.

Caye Caulker to Belize City: $15-20 one-way, 45 min. San Pedro to Caye Caulker: $12-15, 30 min. San Pedro to Belize City: $35-40, 1.5 hours. Daily schedules from 6am-4pm.
Are buses reliable?
Yes, local buses run regularly between major towns. Expect $2-15 USD depending on distance. Chicken buses are basic but authentic, express buses are more comfortable. No reservations needed, just show up at the station.
Should I rent a golf cart on the islands?
Golf carts are the main transport on Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker. Rentals cost $30-50/day. Perfect for exploring at your own pace. No special license needed.
