The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office does not advise against travel to Belize's main tourist destinations. Its guidance flags street crime in Belize City and standard Caribbean-region precautions.
On June 12, 2026 the FCDO updated its Belize page to remove information about the May 2026 State of Emergency because the order had ended. That order was a localized policing measure covering Belize City and parts of the Belize District. It never extended to the islands, beach villages, or inland tourist towns.

Global Affairs Canada advises travelers to exercise a high degree of caution in Belize due to widespread violent crime. That is its second of four risk tiers, short of any nationwide 'avoid travel' guidance.
