Belize weather by month: rainfall and rainy days
These 1991–2020 averages come from the National Meteorological Service's station at Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport near Belize City. They provide a coastal reference; southern and inland destinations can differ. A rainy day means more than 1 mm of rain, not a whole day of rain.

Planning Belize for the December–April high season
The Belize Tourism Board describes December through March or April as high season. For a Christmas, New Year or Easter trip, check room availability and your flight connection before shaping the rest of the route. A popular travel month can still have wet or windy days.

How Belize's year actually works
Belize dry season, rainy season and the transition months
For a trip built around drier weather, start with February through April. November to February is a gradual transition: cold fronts can still bring rain and wind, including during the Christmas travel season. The rains return during May in much of Belize, earlier in the south, and the wetter part of the year extends into November. A dry-season label never means every day will be sunny.
High season generally runs from December through April, but tourism demand and rainfall are different things. May and November can offer value if you accept more variable weather. Compare the actual hotel quote and cancellation terms for your dates rather than assuming a fixed shoulder-season discount.

For a reef-first trip, leave a spare day for the boat outing. Wind and sea conditions can change a sailing even in a drier month.

Picking your month: weather, water, and what's happening
December to February brings the winter travel rush, cooler evenings and occasional cold fronts. March and April are useful starting points for travelers prioritizing lower rainfall. May brings heat and the transition toward rain; June and July suit flexible plans that can swap an outdoor excursion for a food or cultural experience when conditions change.
August can bring a relative break in the rains, but it is still part of the wet season. September combines national celebrations with weather uncertainty; October calls for particularly flexible outdoor plans. November has Garifuna Settlement Day on the 19th, while rain and hotel opening dates still need checking. Pick the activities first, then decide how much flexibility your dates allow.

Match the month to the mission
Best time by activity: reef, ruins, jungle, and beach
Diving and snorkeling depend on wind, visibility and the day's marine forecast, not just the month. For caves and inland outings, drier months are a useful starting point, but heavy rain can affect access at any time. Keep a flexible day for the ATM Cave or cave tubing and confirm that the site is open with your guide before setting off.
For a beach trip, compare February through April first, then check current sargassum conditions at the specific coast you plan to book. Birding, Maya sites and cultural visits give you ways to build a varied trip around the weather. Inland and southern Belize can differ substantially from the airport station shown in the monthly table.

The honest caveats
Hurricane season, sargassum, and how to play the value windows
Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Tropical weather can disrupt flights, boats and inland activities, so check forecasts, cancellation terms and the operator's plans before traveling. Lower room rates can be attractive, but compare the full trip cost and confirm any seasonal hotel closures before committing.
Sargassum changes by coast and week. Use current beach reports when choosing a hotel, and ask the property about its own beachfront and alternatives for swimming. Neither a month on the calendar nor a west-facing location guarantees a clear beach for your stay.
