BZE is Belize's only international airport, in Ladyville about 10 miles northwest of Belize City. Around 30 nonstop routes connect it to the US, Canada, Mexico, and Central America, and the domestic island hops leave from the same small building, so you can be on a 20-minute flight to San Pedro within an hour of clearing immigration. Both terminals share one 110,000 sq ft building, so this matters for finding your check-in counter, not for logistics. Nonstop service connects BZE to roughly 30 destinations: US hubs like Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, Denver, Los Angeles, and Seattle year-round, Canada seasonally (Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal, roughly March through May), plus Cancún, Guatemala City, and Panama City for regional connections.

Before You Fly
Documents you'll need at immigration
Belize keeps entry simple for most visitors. US, Canadian, UK, and most EU passport holders get a free 30-day tourist stamp on arrival, no visa needed. What officers actually check for is a passport that stays valid through your whole trip, proof you're leaving (your return ticket), and occasionally evidence of funds, officially about US$75 per day.
Belize has also moved its combined immigration and customs declaration online. Complete the government's official iDeclare digital form before your flight and you skip the paper form in the arrival hall. Staying past 30 days? Monthly extensions are handled at Belize Immigration offices around the country.
Insider tip
Traveling with kids but without the other parent? Immigration officers often ask for a notarized consent letter from the absent parent, plus the child's birth certificate. Carry paper copies; this is the document travelers most often get caught without.

Arriving at BZE
Your first 30 minutes, step by step
1 · Immigration & bags
Deplane onto the tarmac or a short jet bridge, then queue for immigration. When two or three flights land together, which is common around midday, expect 20 to 45 minutes. You get a 30-day visitor stamp; baggage claim is directly after, and customs is usually a quick walk-through.
2 · The arrivals exit
Straight out of the International Arrival Hall you'll find the official Airport Taxi Counter, run by the Ladyville Airport Taxi Association. Buy a fixed-price ticket there instead of negotiating outside. Prebooked shuttle drivers wait in the same area with name signs. ATMs are inside if you need Belize dollars, though US dollars are accepted everywhere at 2:1.
3 · Your onward leg
Connecting to the islands? Tropic Air and Maya Island Air check-in is in Terminal 1, in the same building. Renting a car? The Rental Services Center with 14 agencies (Avis, Hertz, Crystal, Budget and others) is immediately across from the terminal. Heading inland, your shuttle leaves right from the curb.
Departing from BZE
Departure day, without the scramble
The airport officially recommends arriving 3 to 4 hours before your scheduled departure. That sounds excessive for a small airport until you see the midday bank of US departures. Most leave between 10 AM and 3 PM, so everyone checks in at once and the lines swell fast.
Exit fees and departure taxes (passenger service, airport development, security, and the PACT conservation fee, roughly US$55 to $75 combined) are already included in your airline ticket. There's no cash payment line unless you're flying private or charter.
Coming from the islands, work backwards: water taxi to Belize City (45-90 min) plus a 25-30 minute taxi, or a 20-minute domestic flight that lands you in the same building. For a midday international flight, that means the 6-7 AM boat or an early Tropic Air hop.
Once you're through security

- 2 restaurants and 2 delis, plus snack and bar outlets

What is the main airport in Belize?
Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (airport code BZE) is Belize's only international airport. It sits in Ladyville, about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Belize City, and handles every scheduled international flight into the country. The terminal is about 110,000 square feet with 10 departure gates split across Terminals 1 and 2.
Which terminal does my airline use at BZE?
Terminal 2 handles the big North American carriers: Air Canada, Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest, United, and WestJet. Prebooked hotel shuttles and 14 on-site car rental agencies are the alternatives.
Can I fly from BZE straight to the islands?
Yes. Tropic Air and Maya Island Air depart from Terminal 1 in the same building, no transfer needed. Flights to San Pedro (Ambergris Caye) take about 20 minutes and run roughly hourly through the afternoon; Caye Caulker, Placencia, Dangriga, and Punta Gorda are also served. The cheaper alternative is a 25-minute taxi to the Belize City marine terminal and a water taxi out.
Should I take a domestic flight or the water taxi to the cayes?
Flying wins on time and simplicity: about 20 minutes gate-to-gate from the same terminal you land in, with reef views on the way. The water taxi costs less but requires a taxi into Belize City first and a 45 to 90 minute ferry. Rule of thumb: land before 2 PM and the ferry works fine; land later and the flight protects your first island evening.
Is there food, Wi-Fi, and an ATM at Belize Airport?
Yes. The terminal has two restaurants, two delis, and bar/snack outlets, plus 7 duty-free stores and about 15 retail shops. ATMs are in both terminals, Atlantic Bank has a branch in Terminal 2, and free Wi-Fi covers the whole building. It's enough for a comfortable two-hour wait, but don't expect lounges or a food court.
