Belize River Lodge is the country's original fishing lodge, in continuous operation since 1960 on the lush green banks of the Belize Olde River. It sits about 3.5 miles upriver from where the river meets the Caribbean, and there is no road in: guests arrive by boat, part of a door to door run of roughly fifteen minutes from the international airport, ten by vehicle and five on the water.
Eight rooms sit within 47 acres of riverfront grounds, around ten of them landscaped with flowering and fruit trees. Rooms are air conditioned with ceiling fans, WiFi reaches both the rooms and the main lodge, hammocks hang along the verandah overlooking the river, and a family style restaurant serves three home cooked meals a day.
This is a package lodge first and foremost. Stays are sold as all inclusive guided fishing programs that bundle airport transfers, all meals including a boxed lunch on the water, a guided skiff with fuel, and Belize taxes, running from $2,275 per person for three nights to $6,475 for eight, based on double occupancy. For anglers working the river mouths and flats, or for travelers who want a quiet river base minutes from the airport, it is a singular piece of Belize history.
