Located near Corozal Town in northern Belize, this is the main crossing for travelers arriving overland from the Yucatán. Chetumal is the nearest Mexican city, and onward transport to Corozal and Belize City is usually straightforward. Travelers repeatedly ask what time the northern border opens and closes, so recheck the hours close to travel day instead of trusting an old screenshot or blog post.

Located in the Cayo District in western Belize, this crossing connects to Flores and Tikal in Guatemala. It is a popular route for travelers combining Belize's Maya ruins with Guatemala's, and San Ignacio is the usual Belize base for that move. Direct shuttles are common, but border hours and paperwork details are worth confirming shortly before travel because travelers often report mixed information online.

Bring cash for border fees. Both BZD and USD are commonly accepted. Exit fees can vary by nationality and length of stay, so confirm current amounts before travel. Guatemala may charge its own exit fee, payable in quetzales or USD depending on the crossing day. Keep small denominations on hand for taxis and local transport on both sides, and do not assume the border will be set up to make change for large bills.

From the Mexico crossing, buses and shared transfers connect Corozal to Belize City, usually in a couple of hours depending on the service. From the Guatemala crossing, taxis and buses from Benque Viejo run frequently to San Ignacio and Belize City. If you want a direct route to Tikal, plan the shuttle early and leave slack in case the border slows you down.

Always carry your original passport. Photocopies are not accepted at Belizean land borders. If crossing in a rental car, confirm with your rental company that the vehicle is permitted to cross international borders because many rental agreements prohibit this.
