The San Antonio TEA Guesthouse is a grassroots, family-owned micro-tourism enterprise rooted in living Mopan Maya heritage deep in the Toledo District. Guests stay in rustic, clean, traditional Maya-style houses and share meals made from the family's organic farm, fresh chicken caldo with herb seasoning, handmade corn tortillas, Jippi Jappa, callaloo, and cacao harvested steps from the kitchen.
Activities are woven into village life rather than performed for tourists: tour the organic cocoa farm and press your own chocolate drink, learn to cook traditional meals and make crafts alongside the family, including earring and basket weaving with Jippi Jappa and hand embroidery, walk the village, swim at a local waterfall, and hike into the jungle to learn about medicinal plants. Horseback riding through the surrounding forest is also available. Optional excursions include Blue Creek Cave (life jackets and flashlights provided), and day visits to the Lubaantun or Nimli Punit Maya archaeological sites and Rio Blanco National Park. Evenings can include live Maya marimba music, dance, and storytelling.
Three packages are available: a day tour ($60 USD), an overnight stay ($90 USD), or a two-night full immersion ($180 USD). The TEA Guesthouse has been community-owned since 1990, intentionally built to support sustainable livelihoods and keep economic benefit within the community — your visit is part of something larger.
