No rideshare app operates in Belize. Uber tried briefly and withdrew in 2017. Instead, the country runs on licensed green-plate taxis, scheduled shuttles, water taxis to the islands, cheap local buses, and golf carts on the cayes. Every route travelers take is covered: you just book by phone or front desk instead of by app.

Town rides, airport pickups
Every licensed taxi in Belize carries a green license plate. That's how you know it's legit. No meters: agree on the fare before you get in. Short town hops typically run BZ$7-15; your hotel can call a trusted driver.

Driving in Belize is straightforward: on the right, mostly two-lane highways, and distances are short. A rental beats taxis for multi-stop inland days.

On the islands
San Pedro and Caye Caulker barely have cars. Locals and visitors alike move by golf cart, bicycle, or on foot along sand streets. Cart rentals are everywhere in San Pedro; on Caye Caulker, most travelers never need wheels at all: the whole village is a fifteen-minute walk end to end.
The one app-like convenience that does exist: hotels and restaurants will call you a cart taxi or boat transfer with a single message. Ask at the front desk: that phone call is Belize's dispatch system, and it works.

No major rideshare app operates in Belize. Transportation is arranged the traditional way: taxis hailed on the street or called by phone, and shuttles or transfers booked ahead through operators or your hotel.
Licensed Belize taxis are identified by green license plates. They don't use meters, so agree on the fare before you ride. Short town trips typically cost a few US dollars. Hotels and restaurants will happily call a trusted driver for you.
Airport taxis wait outside arrivals at Philip S. W. Goldson International (BZE), with posted fixed fares into Belize City. For San Ignacio, Placencia, or Hopkins, pre-book a shared or private shuttle. For the islands, take a taxi to the water-taxi terminal or a 15-minute domestic flight.
Licensed green-plate taxis are the standard, safe way to get around Belizean towns. Stick to green plates, agree on the price up front, and use hotel-recommended drivers at night, the same common sense you'd use anywhere.
There's periodic talk of rideshare apps entering Belize, but as of 2026 nothing operates. With a small population and strong local taxi associations, don't plan a trip around it: the shuttle and taxi network covers everything travelers need.
