How sargassum actually plays out in Hopkins
Hopkins sits on the same open mainland coast as Placencia, an hour north, and gets a similar seasonal pattern: clean, wide beaches November through February, variable weeks March through October with the peak in June-August. Beachfront lodges clear their frontage in season, and the wrack line is typically heavier at the village's unmaintained stretches.
What makes Hopkins different is that the beach was never the whole point. It's the center of Garifuna culture in Belize (drumming, cooking, the living village) and the staging base for Cockscomb Basin (the jaguar preserve), Mayflower Bocawina's waterfalls, and river tubing. In sargassum season, those anchors don't move; the beach becomes the bonus rather than the plan.
