Getting Around
Getting around Belize made simple: water taxi schedules to the cayes, Tropic Air domestic flights, NBC bus timetables, BZE airport transfers, shuttles, and rental cars.

Jabiru storks at dawn, jaguars at dusk, Belize's wildlife on its own schedule.
Balanced pace · 8 days
Belize protects over 40% of its territory in national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and marine reserves. The nature route threads through the country's most ecologically significant landscapes, from the jaguar forests of Cockscomb to the jabiru stork lagoons of Crooked Tree.
Phase 01
Day 1
Arrive at Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, 16,400 acres of lagoons, swamp, and marsh managed by the Belize Audubon Society. Dawn canoe for peak birding: jabiru storks (the largest flying bird in the Western Hemisphere), tiger herons, roseate spoonbills, and 20 to 40 species in a single morning tour.
Day 2
Bermudian Landing's Community Baboon Sanctuary: 1,000+ black howler monkeys protected by a voluntary conservation program across multiple villages since 1985. Afternoon at the Belize Zoo, all animals rescued or born in captivity; 45 native species under forest canopy.
Belize protects more of its territory than almost anywhere on earth.

Day 3
Transfer west to San Ignacio base. Afternoon: orientation walk along the Macal River with a local guide, iguanas, turtles, and kingfishers along the riverbanks.
Day 4
Drive into Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, the landscape shifts from tropical rainforest to pine-covered ridge with startling speed. Rio On Pools offer natural rock swimming holes; Rio Frio Cave has a 65-foot entrance arch with a stream running its half-mile length.
Day 5
Barton Creek Cave by canoe: a meditative silent float through chambers where stalactites grow down to the waterline and Maya ceremonial deposits remain undisturbed on elevated ledges. Afternoon: cave tubing at Nohoch Che'en Park if energy remains.
Day 6
Drive southeast on one of Belize's most scenic roads. The Hummingbird Highway descends from karst hills through broadleaf jungle to coastal lowlands. Arrive in Hopkins and settle into the Garifuna fishing village.
Phase 03
Day 7
Full day in the world's first dedicated jaguar preserve, 128,000 acres of Maya Mountain rainforest. Hiking trails pass waterfalls; the park records 300+ bird species including keel-billed toucans, king vultures, and scarlet macaws. Evening guided walk for the best chance of seeing jaguars, pumas, and ocelots.
Day 8
Domestic flight from Dangriga to Belize City for international connections. The short hop over the forest reserve gives a final aerial view of the protected landscape.
Insider tip
Bring binoculars, Belize records 500+ bird species. Crooked Tree at dawn and Cockscomb at dusk give two completely different wildlife experiences. November to May is peak wading bird season at Crooked Tree.
