When to go: December through April is the dry, breezy, in-demand window, and hotel prices run 30 to 50% higher than shoulder season, so book the best places to stay two to three months ahead for the holidays. May and June are the value sweet spot with warm water, fewer crowds, and short afternoon rain that rarely ruins a reef day. September and October bring the most rain and highest hurricane risk. Sargassum seaweed peaks June through October on east-facing shores, so lagoon-side and west-facing properties stay clearer in those months.

Who Ambergris fits: travelers who want reef access plus a full amenity set (multiple restaurants, spa options, nightlife, dive certifications). It's a strong family choice because the water off Secret Beach is calm and shallow, and most resorts offer kids' menus and transfer logistics. It pairs naturally with San Ignacio as a two-base Belize trip: four or five nights on Ambergris for reef and beach, three or four inland for caves and Maya sites.
